Sacrament Meeting

The youth in our ward have recently participated in 2 very meaningful service projects that have touched their hearts and lives. In December they delivered gifts to 8 Refugee Families and in January they spent 2 Sundays at Randolph Ranch also known as the Arizona Training Center. This is a home for disabled individuals that was opened in 1952, some of the residents have been there from the very beginning when the Center opened. There are still nearly 80 residents that still live there with the average age of 50 - 70
First they had an orientation meeting and then everyone headed out on the grounds to gather their new Friends from their homes,
and bring them to the gathering hall for Primary.
Lindsay Harrison, Hailey Colburn, Matt Wulff & McKay Gardner
all shared their experiences of serving at Randolph Ranch.
What each of the youth shared was they quickly came to realize that they were experiencing a great opportunity, a true privilege. Rather than blessing these people's lives by being there to help them, they were blessing the lives of those there serving, simply by allowing them to spend time with them. As the director put it,
"Today you will have the opportunity to make celestial friends."
Just by listening to Lindsay, Hailey, Matt and McKay share their experiences you can tell each of their lives have been changed for the better because of this experience.

All of us are “in the dash.” But, you may be thinking, “I’ve got plenty of time to record my life story for my posterity. Why start now? Why this year?”  “Journals are a way of counting our blessings and of leaving an inventory of these blessings for our posterity”

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Tiffany saw perfection in her future as a wife, mother, and overachiever. But as checklists grew longer and expectations grew harder to meet, Tiffany felt exhausted and broken.
“Who was I if I wasn’t everything I did? How could I have worth while sitting in bed day after day? Who was I as a wife, a mother, and a woman when my body didn’t allow me to do the things that a wife, a mother, and a woman should do? I had a testimony that my Savior’s Atonement was real. I believed His miracles, I believed Him when He said that all things were possible. But in my most broken state, I wasn’t sure how to use His power.”
Hear Tiffany tell her story in this Hope Works presentation about how she overcame what she calls “The Perfect Lie.”

Just a Thought . . . .

Dallin H. Oaks

Each day, we put on clean clothes. But by day’s end our clothes are soiled by mortal exertions. So it is true for each of us spiritually.
By Saturday, every one of us needs to be washed and cleaned. When we are soiled by sin, we cannot have the Spirit’s companionship. I don’t think that one unkind act drives the Spirit away all week, but it turns down the volume a little. By Saturday night we all need to be cleansed spiritually, and this happens on the Sabbath.
We confess our sins to the Lord and those we’ve wronged, and if serious, we speak with our priesthood leaders. When that is fulfilled, we partake of the sacrament and make a new commitment. Then we have the promise that we will always have His Spirit to be with us.
We all need the cleansing that comes from partaking of the sacrament on the Sabbath day.

Elder Oaks Urges All Church Members to Defend Religious Freedom
by Deseret News
A known advocate of religious freedom, Elder Dallin H. Oaks and other Church leaders urged members to advocate for religious freedom while refraining from angry and hurtful rhetoric.

Urging all Church members to take a stand in defense of religious freedom, Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and other Church officials addressed more than 1,100 people at the Tempe Institute of Religion at Arizona State University on Jan. 21. Over 11,000 more, age 16 and older, viewed a live broadcast of the event at 81 stake centers in Arizona.

“The leadership and membership of The Church of Jesus Christ are irrevocably committed to the principle and preservation of religious freedom because it is necessary for the divine plan for mortals to exercise their agency to make the choices necessary to progress toward eternal life,” said Elder Oaks. “In furtherance of what we believe to be the inspiration of God, our national and state constitutions guarantee the free exercise of religion by forbidding government laws or actions to restrict it.”

He explained that core principles of Church doctrine, such as those identified in “The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” are divinely given doctrine of the restored Church and cannot be changed.

“The most important Church doctrine being currently attacked is our practice and reliance on the traditional man-woman marriage and family,” Elder Oaks said. “The Family Proclamation begins with the declaration that ‘marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.’”

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

The eight Bonner siblings and their parents, all talented vocalists in their own rights, gathered from around the country to compose and record this original song based on the hymn
 “I Need Thee Every Hour.”
Debra and Harry Bonner served as Baptist missionaries in Africa before becoming members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this powerful performance, they and their children, who are also members, share the message dearest to their hearts:
We need Him, and He is here
