Sacrament Meeting Highlights

Gina Smart spoke on the blessings of temple attendance and particularly on the blessing of teaching our children the importance of the temple.   She shared personal stories of how the temple has helped her and her family, both living and dead.  In teaching our children she said to let your children know you are going to the temple and why.  Teach them to give service to those going to the temple.  Give them the basics of love for the temple and they will grow to appreciate and love the temple.

Karly Williams shared her insights on preparing to attend the temple.  She reminded us that the words over the temple doors, "Holiness to the Lord" applies to not only the temple itself but to the people who go there.  She told us to take the temple seriously and go with a willingness to be open and accepting of the teachings we find there.   Recommends are given to us based on our worthiness.  They are simple things to do but are set by the Lord.  She told us to prepare physically by wearing clothing that shows respect.   We can prepare spiritually by reading seven definitions in the Bible dictionary:  Annoint, Atonement, Christ, Covenants, the fall of Adam, Sacrifice and Temples.

Personal Study

March 25–31

Matthew 14–15Mark 6–7John 5–6

“Be Not Afraid”
What could have inspired Peter to leave the safety of his boat in the middle of the Sea of Galilee during a boisterous storm? What led him to believe that if Jesus could walk on water, he could too? We can’t know for certain, but perhaps Peter understood that the Son of God came not just to do wonderful things for the people but to empower people like Peter to do wonderful things too. Jesus’s invitation, after all, was “Come, follow me” (Luke 18:22). Peter had accepted this invitation once, and he was willing to accept it again, even if it meant facing his fears and doing something that seemed impossible. Perhaps the Lord will not ask us to step out of a boat in the middle of a storm or contribute our meager supply of bread when thousands need to eat, but He may ask us to accept directions even when we don’t fully understand them. Whatever His invitations to us may be, they may sometimes seem surprising or even frightening. But miracles can happen if we, like Peter, will set aside our fears, our doubts, and our limited understanding and follow Him in faith.

Book of Mormon Scripture Study Class
The full time missionaries sponsor a Book of Mormon class.
The class is held on Sunday Evenings from 5-6:00 pm in the Relief Society Room at the Shea Building

The teacher is Daryl Williams of the Mountain View Ward. The lessons are for those who want a better understanding of the Book of Mormon and is suitable for both life-long members and those who do not attend the church, whether members or not. It is ideal for people who do not feel like they ready to attend a worship service, but are interested in the Church. The dress is casual. The class covers the Book of Mormon in one year, so it provides a more in-depth look at the book than typical of a Gospel Doctrine class and makes the class suitable for both long-time students of the scriptures and beginners.   Bring a physical copy of all the scriptures and a notebook for your thoughts.
