Sister Stacy Campbell - Seminary Teacher for 9 years
"I can testify with full confidence that
seminary blesses the lives of high school students. In fact, there is nothing quite like it in a
young person’s life. It is really quite
a remarkable thing for teenagers – gathering daily with friends and peers,
learning eternal truths, strengthening faith, feeling the Spirit. But there is more. A favorite hymn says that “sacrifice brings
forth the blessings of heaven,” and young men and women who attend seminary
make real and meaningful sacrifices.
These students have busy lives. School is demanding. Many of them have jobs after school and
homework after jobs. Many are involved
in music, drama, dance, clubs, and sports.
And yet day after day, week after week, they walk smiling into the church
before most of their school peers are even awake. Some car pool together, some ride bikes, some
walk. They arrive on hot mornings, cold
mornings, dark mornings, rainy mornings.
In addition to the wonderful knowledge and support and Spirit they gain
each morning, I know the Lord loves them and blesses them with spiritual power for
their sacrifice. "
·
A
young man was worried about a very specific and very real family problem. The solution to the problem was revealed to
him during a seminary lesson.
He told me about
it that morning after class.
·
A
shy young man made life-long friends with boys he came to know in his seminary
class. He has been out of seminary now
for many years, and the friends he made there are still his closest friends in
life.
·
A
young woman was tempted to cheat on an important math test. She could see how easy it would be, there was
virtually no chance of her being caught, and an A grade on this test would be
very important to her. She told the seminary
class later that week about the experience and that she was able to resist the
temptation to cheat because of the powerful Spirit she had felt in seminary the
day of the test. I am confident that experience strengthened her honesty for a
lifetime.
“It is easier to make good choices, keep things
in perspective, and remain focused on what’s important in life when you start
the day in the scriptures, with the Spirit, focused on Christ.”
