Sacrament Meeting Highlights

The Choir did a beautiful rendering of:  In This Very Room

Elder and Sister Lauritzen,  missionaries in the Arizona Scottsdale Mission, spoke on the Senior Missionary Program.

Sister Lauritzen shared their experiences in Tonga where they served as teachers and advisors in the church education system.  She told us of the ministering and miracles of being a senior missionary.  She reminded us that Love is what ministering is.

Elder Lauritzen invited all to do as Christ did in John 1:35 and "Come and See" what senior missionaries enjoy.  He shared the differences between young missionaries and seniors and that it can be a short, long or in between in length and that it can be full or part time and you don't have to be retired to do it or even leave home.  He said it wasn't leaving family to serve but leading them and if we have the desire to serve we are called to the work.

Personal Study

Matthew 6–7

“He Taught Them as One Having Authority”
It’s not always easy to prioritize the things of God over the things of the world. Which of the Savior’s teachings in Matthew 6–7 help you focus on heavenly things?
What teachings in Matthew 6–7 inspire you to improve how you pray?   What does it mean to use “vain repetitions” in prayer?  People often understand “vain repetitions” to mean repeating the same words over and over again. However, the word vain can describe something that has no value. Using “vain repetitions” in prayer can mean praying without sincere, heartfelt feeling (see Alma 31:12–23).
The Lord’s Prayer serves as a pattern to follow and not as a piece to memorize and recite repetitively. The Master simply wants us to pray for God’s help while we strive constantly to resist evil and live righteously.

IMatthew 7:1, the Savior may seem to be saying we should not judge, but in other scriptures (including other verses in this chapter), He gives us instructions about how to judge. If that seems puzzling, the Joseph Smith Translation of this verse might help: “Judge not unrighteously, that ye be not judged; but judge righteous judgment
The phrase “I never knew you” in Matthew 7:23 was changed in the Joseph Smith Translation to “Ye never knew me”

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

The first words Jesus spoke in His

majestic Sermon on the Mount were

to the troubled, the discouraged and

downhearted.

Jesus describes the characteristics of true Christians.  Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.  Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

These are the Be-Attitudes

Book of Mormon Scripture Study Class
The full time missionaries sponsor a Book of Mormon class.
The class is held on Sunday Evenings from 5-6:00 pm in the Relief Society Room at the Shea Building

The teacher is Daryl Williams of the Mountain View Ward. The lessons are for those who want a better understanding of the Book of Mormon and is suitable for both life-long members and those who do not attend the church, whether members or not. It is ideal for people who do not feel like they ready to attend a worship service, but are interested in the Church. The dress is casual. The class covers the Book of Mormon in one year, so it provides a more in-depth look at the book than typical of a Gospel Doctrine class and makes the class suitable for both long-time students of the scriptures and beginners.   Bring a physical copy of all the scriptures and a notebook for your thoughts.
