People who lived through the cyclone that passed over the South Pacific island of Vanuatu in 2015 describe the frightening experience and how they learned to have faith in the Lord. They also describe how they worked to become physically and spiritually self-reliant.Elder Stevenson sits down with Vanuatu residents to talk about the aftermath of the natural disaster and about our relationship with our Heavenly Father—how He cares for us, strengthens us, and helps us through the unexpected trials in our lives.“As we are dependent on [Jesus Christ], we begin to develop our own spiritual and temporal strength and independence. We get a gospel perspective and we can really see the hand of the Lord helping us, even in the midst of trials and afflictions.” –Elder Stevenson

Ward / Stake Business

Elder George Muhn  returned from serving in the Brazil Teresina Mission on August 13th. He will speak in the Mountain View Ward on Sunday, August 26th at 11:00 am.

Elder Christensen has received his Visa and will be leaving for the Philippines. We have been blessed by his service in our ward. He shared his testimony and being called to the Philippines and having to leave the MTC and come to Arizona because his VISA was not done. He shared his discouragement in the beginning but was then reminded that God has a purpose in all things and God knows the beginning from the end and there was a reason he was coming to Arizona. Well we have truly been blessed by Elder Christensen's service and the spirit that he brought to the work in our ward. Best of luck Elder.
The people of the Philippines will be blessed.

Sacrament Meeting Speakers

Sharon Nilsen of the Stake Young Women spoke today. She share some impressions and feelings from President Nelsons World Wide Youth Devotional. She encouraged all who have not watched it to take the time to view it - you can watch it {HERE}  Sister Nilsen shared some of her thoughts from the Stake Youth Conference that took place up North last weekend and how she loved the amazing youth that attended. One of the stories she shared was about the importance of listening to the promptings of the Holy Ghost and making sure your not to be busy to feel and act upon those feelings and impressions. She closed with a reminder from President Nelson "My beloved brothers and sisters, I plead with you to increase your spiritual capacity to receive revelation. Let this Easter Sunday be a defining moment in your life. Choose to do the spiritual work required to enjoy the gift of the Holy Ghost and hear the voice of the Spirit more frequently and more clearly.
With Moroni, I exhort you  to “come unto Christ, and lay hold upon every good gift,” beginning with the gift of the Holy Ghost, which gift can and will change your life. We are followers of Jesus Christ. The most important truth the Holy Ghost will ever witness to you is that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. He lives! He is our Advocate with the Father, our Exemplar, and our Redeemer."

Ryan Riveras of the High Council also spoke to us today. Ryan spoke on Sabbath Day observance. Ryan shared how being a convert observing the Sabbath Day was a challenge. But he shared that as he had the faith to keep this commandment he felt blessings come into his life.

When we place trust only in our own knowledge, we miss out on the special relationship we could be building with our Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us to “trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” There are many things in life that can distract us from the stabilizing power that comes from trusting in our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. But if we will go back to the basics—prayer, daily scripture study, and attending our Church meetings—with trust in mind, our lives will feel balanced in ways that are impossible to achieve on our own.
Heavenly Father is pleased with us when we seek to discover truths. He loves teaching us line upon line, precept on precept. As we strive to learn and have faith in Him, He will bless us to see things as they really are.
